Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CCTA) produces high-resolution multiplanar and 3-dimensional anatomic views of the coronary arteries and allows for detailed assessment of atherosclerotic plaque burden. FFR derived from CT (aka, FFR-CT) represents a milestone development of the last decade and incorporates 3-dimensional reconstruction of the coronary arteries like CCTA, coupled with computational fluid dynamics to derive hyperemic pressure ratios under certain boundary conditions and physical assumptions. Addition of functional FFR models on top of standard anatomical CCTA has shown superior sensitivity, specificity and accuracy for diagnosis of suspected Coronary Artery Disease.
However, commercial FFR-CT options are expensive, they are applied remotely and have processing times of several hours. Building on our ultrafast FFR and CFR computer models, Medlytic Labs has pioneered the first on-site FFR-CT application that allows the reporting radiologists themselves to perform and deliver rapid FFR-CT simulations and treatment planning reports, thereby ushering a new era of productivity and radiologist-cardiologist engagement in diagnosing and treating physiologically significant arterial stenoses.
We envision that medLYTIC Labs’ software will become a key driver in accelerated adoption of near real-time image-based cardiac physiology both outside of and inside the catheterization laboratory producing improved clinical outcomes and delivering ‘precision medicine’ in future cardiovascular care.
